About Screen Printing

When screen printing, each colour in your design is printed through its own screen. Your artwork will be separated out into individual colours and each is printed onto transparent film. The printed transparencies are laid onto the screen which is covered with a UV light sensitive emulsion. When placed in an exposure unit, light passes through the film around the printed design and the emulsion solidifies, leaving the emulsion behind the design soft. The screen is taken to a washout booth and the emulsion in the design area is washed out of the screen mesh.

Your print job is taken care of on either our 8 or 10 colour fully automatic MHM printing presses. Each screen is set in the printing press and registered so that each colour in the design lines up perfectly. The t-shirt is loaded onto the press and held in place with a spray adhesive (if the t-shirt moves on the board the colours won’t register!) As the press rotates, the t-shirt moves around the press and beneath each colour in turn, where the ink is forced through the screen with a squeegee. Each colour is flashed dry before printing the next.

After each colour is printed, the t-shirt is removed from the press and passed through a tunnel dryer which ‘cures’ the ink on the garment. You can view some of effects that can be achieved using screen print in the gallery below.

We can print up to 8 colours and up to A3 size as standard. We can print sleeves and various other positions including inside the neck to act as a label. We can print standard spot colour designs as well as more complex designs including halftones and CMYK process.

Screen Print Pricing

Setup - We need to setup a screen for each colour in your design, screen setup is charged at £20 per screen (ex VAT). This is a one off charge, and not payable on repeat orders of the same design.

Please allow setup of an extra screen when printing onto coloured shirts for a base white, this acts as a bright backing ensuring you get vibrant colours in the print. Print of the base white is free of charge. For example, printing a yellow and a blue onto a black shirt would be a 3 screen setup (yellow, blue and white) and priced as a 2 colour print (yellow and blue).

Print Costs - The cost of your print will depend on the colour count in your design and the quantity of items you require. These costs are exclusive of garment costs, which can be found in our catalogue.

We screen print on a wide range of garments that we supply, feel free to browse our range and get a quote for screen printing.
